Skateboarding Culture n the North East - Finished Product

Here is the finished documentary:  https://youtu.be/l540kITUpTA Evaluation: This is my evaluation for the project I have worked on for the past year, it has parts to itself, one being specifically skateboarding questions, and the second part about mental health. Research for my project: My initial research for the project was to find ant documentaries or videos made revolving around skateboarding in the North East. I found a short documentary on YouTube that revolved around skateboarders in Newcastle where they spoke about the community and outsiders opinions on what they do. This video is what gave me the initial idea to make my project follow the same sort of pattern, asking people about their experience with the community, while also giving them a opportunity to say something to people who don't fully understand the community. I also looked into the company to see the type of things they do in Sunderland. Realising they wanted a video with a target audience of 16 to 25, It made...

Finished Product Feedback and Editing Proof

Image
These are some feedback I gathered for my final product. The overall response was positive with everyone liking the video and with little to no issues with the video. The only changes that were mentioned was to do with the audio of some of the interviews. Documentary Timeline:

Production Diary

On the 9th of December 2021, I had filmed a rough interview with Seb to gain a bit of experience with the questions. I later changed some of the questions for the later and final interviews. On the 9th of May, I filmed a short interview with Robert Andrews, to gain some outsider opinions on skateboarding. We went over the question and discussed a answer before we filmed. On the 3rd of June, I spoke over the phone with Jay Laws and David Bell, where we went over the interview questions as I was unable to meet in person to film them. After the phone call with each of them, they emailed myself the interviews over. On the 9th of June, I filmed interviews with Jake Withers and Seb Cook. We discussed the questions and spoke about answers to each one before filming. Seb's interview was filmed earlier in the day to Jake's.

Skateboarding Culture in the North East - Documentary Opening

Image
I put together an opening video for my documentary, which was comprised with a short interview, video clips and music that fit the theme. This is what the edit looks like with all the details of the video and clips. The interview was one I had done with Robert, where the question was "What are your thoughts on skateboarding and the culture?" I thought that having someone with an external perspective on the culture to open up a documentary that focuses solely on those involved with the culture. The volume of the interview was raised louder than everything else in the video to help the audience hear Roberts views easier since there is music that plays in the background.  The volume of the short clips I used in the video were all lowered to 10% so the audio would not interfere with any of the other audio of the video. Since the music and interview are the loudest things in the opening, having the short clips quiet still allows people to hear a slight bit of audio but not enough...

Skateboarding Culture in the North East - Location Scouting, Risk Assessment, Resources List and Release Forms

The following are the location scouting sheets for all the location I will be filming at for my documentary.

Skateboarding in the North East - Rough Edits

Image
I started to put together a demo version of my documentary, using the interview footage I had filmed with Sebastian. Each question I had play in the order they were asked during the interview, but when I put together all the footage I will soon film, each question will be one after the other with each persons response after one another.  For most parts of each question, I have clips from skate videos playing over to show some form of context/visual representation so people who don't fully understand what is being said, have something to help understand. For each clip used, I have credit to the creator with the name of the video. In the final edit, for the credits I will include credit again in more detail for each clip used and where to watch the creators video. For example in this screenshot, the clip I had used was from Northern Souls made by Krishna Mjthurangu. So, using the text I gave credit to him for the video clip. I feel that using clips that make sense with what is...

Skateboarding in the North East - Story Board Planning

Image
For the opening shot in the documentary, I want it to be a collage of establishing shots in different places that are well known skate spots in the North East with people skating. Each place would have different angles to show the places off better. Then during the last establishing shot, cut to two people speaking then in the center of the screen, the text Skateboarding Culture appears while the clip continues. Then in the same shot, the text will change to In The North East. Following the opening, I want the start of a interview to play showing the footage for the interview before then playing a short clip from a certain skate video part. Then as some of the interview plays, I want it to cut between them speaking and showing the skate part.  For the interviews, I want to ask the same questions to everyone I speak to so I can get each of their opinions or views, where I could then have a variety of views and opinions to cut between during the video. As each question is asked in ea...
