Skateboarding Culture in the North East - Documentary Opening

I put together an opening video for my documentary, which was comprised with a short interview, video clips and music that fit the theme.

This is what the edit looks like with all the details of the video and clips. The interview was one I had done with Robert, where the question was "What are your thoughts on skateboarding and the culture?" I thought that having someone with an external perspective on the culture to open up a documentary that focuses solely on those involved with the culture.

The volume of the interview was raised louder than everything else in the video to help the audience hear Roberts views easier since there is music that plays in the background.

The volume of the short clips I used in the video were all lowered to 10% so the audio would not interfere with any of the other audio of the video. Since the music and interview are the loudest things in the opening, having the short clips quiet still allows people to hear a slight bit of audio but not enough to drown out everything else.

The music used in the video was from a royalty free website, I made the volume 21% so the audience could still hear the music but it wouldn't drown out Roberts voice.

For the end of the opening video, I wanted to have something that I could put text over to slowly fade into the full documentary. So, to do this I had the screen fade to black while the music still plays which would allow for a easy transition when putting the full documentary together. I kept the text simple with an easy to read font, although I am unsure if the black text works as well as I would like, as parts of the clip used are dark where the text is displayed over.

I gathered some feedback on my opening.

Overall, it seems as though everyone likes the mix of interview and skateboarding clips as well as the music that plays over the whole video. One person said that it gives context to the documentary and also creates atmosphere.

Overall, the only thing that some people did not like about the documentary was the text in the outro and the outro, and one person said the audio was not loud enough.

What I will change with my video is making the audio of the interview louder or making the music slightly quieter, and changing the video I used for the outro. Also by changing the video used in the outro to something with darker colours, I will be able to make the text more easily readable.
