Skateboarding in the North East - Rough Edits

I started to put together a demo version of my documentary, using the interview footage I had filmed with Sebastian. Each question I had play in the order they were asked during the interview, but when I put together all the footage I will soon film, each question will be one after the other with each persons response after one another.

For most parts of each question, I have clips from skate videos playing over to show some form of context/visual representation so people who don't fully understand what is being said, have something to help understand.

For each clip used, I have credit to the creator with the name of the video. In the final edit, for the credits I will include credit again in more detail for each clip used and where to watch the creators video.

For example in this screenshot, the clip I had used was from Northern Souls made by Krishna Mjthurangu. So, using the text I gave credit to him for the video clip.

I feel that using clips that make sense with what is being said really helps the viewer understand everything better. Especially if the viewer doesn't have knowledge that would be known by skateboarders in the North East and or people involved in the community.

As a little nod to my friends who I myself skate with, I included a clip from their video they made last year 'Spice Volume 1'. I am then gong to add more clips from the video into my documentary, and also clips from our upcoming video 'Spice Volume 2' when it is released in 2022.

I have the idea to, for sections of interviews where the dialogue is long, I will be adding clips from different videos that would convey the dialogue better. Also, just to keep the audience engaged in the video by showing some form of visual representation.

Take this part of Seb's interview for example, he spoke about the community and how everyone knows everyone, also talking about how nice and accepting the people involved are. So, from the Rollin' Through Sunderland video, there was sections like what is shown above, where the audience can see just a small glimpse of the people involved in the community. With the clips playing over his interview, I do think it helps keep the audience involved with the video, even if it is just a short clip of some skaters having themselves a good time.

In my final edit, i do plan to have every response to each question play one after another. With this, for specific questions i want to play clips from certain places in the North East to show the audience a better representation of those specific places.

Like this small section, Seb mentions a place in Newcastle which is very well known in the community, so I took a short clip from the Northern Souls video which showed the spot.

Since I have a question dedicated to mental health, I want to show websites and videos and numbers for people who are struggling with mental health. That is why in this part of the interview, Seb speaks on the Ben Raemer's Foundation which was made after the tragic death of a young professional skateboarder.
