Inspiration

What defines my cultural identity would more than likely be skateboarding culture as it is the only thing I involve myself with as of recent years.

Living in the north east and being brought up in multiple areas has been a eventful experience due to many things that have happened especially after turning 13 and soon going on 18 in a few months. But, being apart of the skateboarding community in the north east and being apart of the culture has made my experience living in the north east better than it was beforehand.

Some other points that could be spoken up -
  • How you look
  • How you feel
  • What you like
  • What you don't like
  • What you do or don't believe in
  • How you think other people see you
  • How you feel about your religion
  • What it is to come from this religion
A big reason that the culture of skateboarding in the North East is my main inspiration for this project, because I have had a lot of good memories with the people involved in it is how I have met a lot of the people I am very close friends with today.

I found a short documentary which takes place in Newcastle Upon Tyne, where skateboarders who have grew up skateboarding in around different spots there talk about what it is like. As well as speaking upon some of the hate from people who aren't involved in the sport or the culture who see it as a nuisance and other things. The documentary used editing techniques that I wish to use myself, such as using voiceover/interviews playing over videos of skateboarding with the people being interviewed/speaking. Though for mine I would like to use skateboarding video parts to play behind a voiceover/interview.
The way that they put together the documentary was very powerful in getting across the point trying to be made by the documentary. The point being put across by the documentary is to not judge people who do something different to you, no matter their age because if someone spoke bad on your sport that you're involved in, you yourself would not be very happy about it.

I sent a survey to Microsoft Teams for people to fill out, and I got responses regarding the subject of my documentary. These are the responses I got:
